Exciting Update

Since arriving home in Canada, we have been in communication with the orphanage and learned some very exciting news... two of the baby girls from the nursery have been discharged to enter the adoption process!!! Please pray that they will be welcomed into loving homes and that the process for adoption will proceed without complications. Please pray for home placements for the other babies at the orphange as well.

we will rejoice and be glad in them."

Home Here - Hearts There!

Yes, we arrived safely home in Canada landing in Moncton at about 11PM Friday night to a welcoming committee of family & friends. We were weary from travel but still giddy about all that had happened and about all that we have to share from our experiences in Kenya. God is faithful and so good to have blessed us`with His timing for events and with the people that He brought into our lives throughout this journey. Not least of those people were all of you who upheld us with your prayers, so once again we say "Asante sana!!"
Of course, saying our goodbyes was difficult but we will treasure the memories of our precious babies, the caregivers at New Life Home, the staff at our guesthouse(where we were more like family than guests), those other guests who touched our lives and our own missionaries from Canada serving in Kenya. Through this experience, we have become more connected to Kenya so we find ourselves looking at our watches, adding on seven hours and recalling what activities of the day would be happening there...part of our hearts remain attached to Kenya.

Homeward Bound

One last post before we take to the air.

We said our teary good-byes at New Life Home this morning. Knowing how well the babies are loved and cared for there made it a little easier.

We will leave for the airport as soon as we finish supper as we are required to check in 3 hours prior to departure. Our flight is scheduled to leave Nairobi at 11:20pm (Kenyan time)--that's 4:30pm in New Brunswick. Saying good-bye to our Mayfield family will not be easy either. They have taken very good care of us.

We leave Kenya with so many memories and thoughts going through our minds and thanking God for the way He has provided for our needs and abundantly blessed us, even showing us a beautiful African rainbow last night.

See you soon.

Another Wonderful Day!

Just a brief note tonight as it is past "Missionary Bedtime" (9PM) ... so "Silence Please". We actually have been getting to bed at about 10 PM and up between 6:00 & 7:00 AM. Even so that means it's just afternoon for you when we turn in for the night and you're going to bed when we get up. We've adjusted to the time change here though.
Today was another busy ...and wonderful day... at NLH with our little ones. We actually were there from 8:30 - 12:30 and from 2:00 - 5:00 today...that's a lot of feeding and cuddling and loving. But the real wonder is the staff at NLH who carry on day after day after day caring for these precious little ones. Please include them in your prayers, too.
Yesterday we attended Nairobi Baptist Church - a very modern church, situated right next door to Mayfield Guesthouse. It was a wonderful service...great singing and a fantastic drama presentation about "giving" which tied in with the sermon. The church has three services every Sunday. And tonight the roadside by the church and its parking lot were packed with cars parked for the Monday evening Bible study for men only. Wow!!!
Well, it really is bedtime now!!! TTFN... Love & Prayers.

More Adventures in Kenya

We continue to marvel at the wonderful people that God has brought into our lives here at Mayfield. Last week, one of them was the man who helped us organize our outings to feed the giraffes and to watch the feeding of elephants. This week we met a lady here whose husband is a pilot and they will be serving with Samaritan's Purse. She is staying here by herself while he is back in the states trying to tie up loose ends there. Anyway, she offered to be our driver/tour guide today. So...we headed off first of all to the Yaya Centre (a mall) in Nairobi, then to the Nakumatt ( similar to a Walmart). Both of these were not unlike shopping experiences at home.

The real African experience came at noontime when we ate at the "Carnivore" restaurant. Yes indeed! our lunch started with a large flask of tangerine juice, followed by a delicious bowl of leek & potato soup. Next arrived the two-tiered lazy susan tray placed in the centre of our table with sauces for each of the meats we could try. The meats included chicken & chicken livers, pork, lamb, camel, ostrich, beef and turkey. We all agreed that the spicy ostrich meatballs were really good and that the camel was rather tough but we ate it!!! After eating ostrich, we drove outside Nairobi to the Masai Ostrich Farm. We understood we could ride an ostrich there...just imagine that!!! However, it was not to be. Unfortunately, the ostrich were not available for rides due to
a special event scheduled there today. Guess we'll have to saddle up another time!

On our return to Nairobi, we saw several gazelle and watched one of them speed across the road
head of us. We also saw some cattle on the road (that walked past our car) and a variety of East African birds.

Once again, we are thankful for all the beautiful things we have seen but don't be deceived by our descriptions of the beauty because there are sharp contrasts as we see housing that is inadequate and people in need.

Asante sana for your prayers!!!

Rainy Nairobi

November was ushered in with rain here in Nairobi and boy, does that make a mess of the streets! However, we rejoice with the Kenyan people as they have been waiting for rain for a long time.

We have completed 3 "shifts" at New Life Home and the kids are an absolute delight. We have decided to shorten our days a bit, though, as we nearly exhausted ourselves on day one.

The baby who arrived the day we were there last week is doing well. Today she was moved from ICU to the nursery so Donna gets to dote on her as that's become her niche. We had the thrill of naming her. (We're avoiding revealing any of the children's names on this website). Greta and Muriel will likely stick mainly with the "crawlers" and toddlers but we're free to choose which area we go to and can move from place to place.

Your interest and prayers are a great encouragement. We really enjoy reading your comments when we check the blog. Stay tuned.
